Funding has been secured to begin preparatory work on a first wave of potential restoration projects in the north and south of the catchment
Thanks to the Perth & Kinross Nature Restoration Fund, the River Ericht Steering Group is able to begin work with four landowners in the north and south of the catchment on potential habitat restoration projects.
This second stage will build landowner involvement in three ways:
- x4 landowners identified through our Project Design Stage will undertake detailed ecological design surveys on x12 sites across x5 landholdings. These surveys will create detailed, site-specific habitat restoration plans ready for implementation. They surveys will also create blueprints for future habitat restoration on other landholdings in the catchment and act as a road map for other landowners in the future to undertake similar projects.
- We will be working with the Woodland Trust to secure the commitment of a second wave of further landowners in habitat restoration projects via an initial catchment-wide landowner engagement survey. The survey will identify potential size and scope of nature restoration interventions that would increase biodiversity, reduce habitat fragmentation and restore ecosystem function.
- From both these strands of work, we hope to identify landowners who would be interested in forming a new farmer cluster focusing on water management issues and freshwater restoration.
We’ll be posting update on how this work is progressing over the coming months.
